Featured at World Whisky Day 2020: Tullamore D.E.W. likes the number 3. Triple distilled, triple blended, three ingredients. Making whiskey either by brand or by hand at their own distillery since 1829, when the original distillery opened in Tullamore. The D.E.W. of the brand name is from former distillery manager and owner Daniel E. Williams, who created what would eventually become the brand signature (and caused to have his initial stamped on the barrels, D.E.W.). One of the offerings from their large portfolio is this Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask, taking a spirit aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and finished in bourbon barrels that once held apple cider.

Adam – I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this one, having never tried an apple cider cask finish with whiskey before. I’m surprised by how much is going on in the nose, a nice blending of all fruits and spices mixed with a solid base of grain and vanilla. Even the palate, which narrows the elements from the nose, has a nice texture and crackles with spices more dominant than I expect. While it might be easy to blow off a blended whiskey, this has a lot going for it that you might not expect from its price point. The apple especially in the nose is really quite pleasant, especially as autumn nears.
Meghan – I enjoy the Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask. I don’t know that it holds up to scrutiny the greatest. It’s nice and refreshing.
It doesn’t have any roadblocks like smoke or peat to hold you up.
Michael – It has those fresh apple notes, but I get those qualities you’d get from an apple crisp too. I really enjoy it.
Caitlin – This is easy. It doesn’t have any roadblocks like smoke or peat to hold you up. I want to take another sip right away.
Ben – It is buttery even though I think it is a throwaway term. I wouldn’t go and seek this out but I’d drink it if handed to me. They’re like when you go out to pick apples fresh off the tree and you’re going to eat them later but the smell is still there.
Kate – I can see this Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask being a good one for people who are wine connoisseurs and can handle the spiciness of whiskey. It needs to make up it’s mind a little more for it to be my taste.
Henry – My first impression is apple blossoms, the ketone edge from the tree.
