The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is part of a Diageo series called Distillers Editions. This series takes what might be considered a base whisky from a given distillery, like the Talisker 10 Year or the Oban 14 Year, and gives them further maturation in casks that once held some additional wine or spirit. Historically these have been various kinds of sherries or ports, but could also showcase other choices as the company dictates. The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is aged 16 years and further finished in ex-PX sherry casks
Tobermory 10 Year
This whisky comes from the only distillery on the Isle of Mull, where everything in the distilling process continues to be done by hand. Older siblings include the Tobermory 15 year and Ledaig, making a fine family. Tradition you can taste.
Ardbeg Ardbog
One of Ardbeg’s annual Committee releases, the Ardbog was put out as a limited edition of 3000 bottles during the Islay Festival, celebrated by a worldwide Ardbog Day on June 1, 2013, before being sold more widely for a limited time. It’s name connotes the peat bogs scattered across Islay. The Ardbeg Ardbog is and remains to this day, for some of us here at Scotchology, a quintessential unicorn dram.
