Comments:
Adam – The Tobermory 10 is a nice scotch for being 10 years old. Has a lot of taste up front but tappers very quickly, leaving only a little warmth. Very accessible. I’ve found myself recommending this to people just beginning their scotch journey, though it becomes less exciting the more experienced a drinker you become. Rather, not that it becomes bad, just that it’s simple pleasures can give way to becoming ordinary. A lovely sipping whisky, however.
Kate – If you add a splash of water, sudden smoke in the nose and palette. Friendly.
Meghan – Beautifully brackish with a vanilla cream wafer cookie palate: like a trip to my grandparent’s lake cabin.
Henry – It’s smoky and sweet without being briny. The ocean is a breeze and not a splash. It’s on the road to Islay but not there. The smoke, the peat and the sweetness are the three-legged stool here. An ocean whisky for the summer months. The finish is incredibly clean. It lacks the lingering oily wonders of the darker islands. The peat almost goes to wintergreen or pine. It’s like icy-hot, it cools first and then it warms. There is an elegance here that is not found in other whiskies at the same age and price point. It could serve as a gentle stepping stone to the world of Islay whiskies.
